Defining this specific field remains complex, but many artists have described it as a boundless exploration, a fusion of energy and pure creativity.

 

At the MIGS Rock & Improvisation Camp, you'll plunge into the very essence of these movements. It's a unique opportunity to improve your skills and unleash your creativity alongside renowned experts in the field of electric guitar improvisation.

This camp will open doors to a multitude of musical styles, from blues to rock and even metal, while focusing on the most innovative improvisation techniques.

 

Playing electric guitar in this context means pushing back boundaries, venturing into daring sounds and telling spontaneous, fiery musical stories. For music enthusiasts in search of an intense, artistic experience, the MIGS Rock & Improvisation Camp is a total immersion in the art of the electric guitar!

PLANNING OF THE CAMP

The camp takes place over 5 days, from Monday, April 22nd to Friday, April 26th, 2024. The get-in starts on Sunday, the 21st at 3 p.m. with a welcome drink followed by an introductory concert by the artists.

The day begins with workshops led by the artists, offering participants a unique opportunity to explore new musical perspectives. These workshops are designed to encourage interaction, where participants can ask questions and engage with the artists, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and expertise.

Afternoons are dedicated to interactive sessions where participants receive personalized advice, discover new musical techniques and concepts, and engage with the artists. These moments aim to enhance participants' skills and absorb the teachings provided by the artists.

Evenings feature concerts or/and open-mic sessions. While your participation is recommended, it's not mandatory.

The artists provide personalized attention to enhance the students' skills.

At the end of the camp on Friday, April 26th, you have the opportunity to continue your musical immersion at the Montreux International Guitar Show, taking place from Friday, April 26th to Sunday, April 28th.

Students of the MIGS Masters Camps benefit from a special price on the "all access" pass.

TYPICAL DAY

9:15 - 10:30 AM: Workshop with a renowned artist, providing ample time to delve into the lives of artists and encouraging students to ask any questions they desire to enhance their experience and musical knowledge.

10:30 - 10:45 AM: Coffee break and room change.

10:45 AM - 12:00 PM: First small group session to work on new exercises and techniques proposed by the artists, who will be available to assist you.

12:00 - 1:30 PM: Lunch break, communal mealtime.

1:30 - 2:45 PM: Second small group session with another artist to explore new exercises and techniques.

3:00 - 4:30 PM: Masterclass - an in-depth learning moment on a specific topic where participants can ask questions, receive personalized guidance, and explore specific aspects of guitar playing.

4:45 - 6:00 PM: Individual lessons or free time. Each participant has the opportunity for one-on-one sessions with an artist, receiving specific guidance to improve their technique and playing.

6:00 - 7:00 PM: End of the camp day. Participants have free time to explore Montreux, practice their instrument, or relax before dinner.

7:00 - 8:30 PM: Dinner.

8:30 PM - 12:00 AM: Concerts and/or Open-Mic sessions.

Please note: The above schedule represents an example of a typical day at the MIGS Masters Camp. Timings and mentioned sessions are subject to change to best meet the group's needs and interests. The final schedule will be communicated to registered participants at a later date.

INTERPRETATION AND EXPRESSIVITY

  • Participants will learn to perform with emotion and expressiveness, using phrasing and dynamics techniques to play quality improvisations and riffs.

  • Improvisation: Participants will have the opportunity to develop their improvisational skills, exploring techniques for creating original, spontaneous solos.

PERFORMANCE

  • The artists will share their tips on stage preparation and performance, helping participants to manage their emotions and deliver memorable concerts.

  • Exchanges and Networking: Participants will have the opportunity to exchange with world-renowned artists and build a valuable network of contacts in the music world.

RECORDING AND PRODUCTION

THEORY

  • Fretboard Visualisation

  • 3NPS, CAGED Vs Intervals

  • Triads, Arpeggios 

  • Chord Voicings and Chord Types

  • Functional Harmony

  • Non-functional Harmony

  • Getting the most from the Pentatonic Plus system

  • Modal Harmony

  • Technique (Legato, Sweep Picking, Economy Picking, Alternate Picking, Selective Picking, Tapping)

  • Playing ‘outside’

COMPOSITION AND ARRANGEMENT

  • The artists will share their expertise in composing and arranging, showing students how to creatively create their own melody lines, songs and improvisations.

INSTRUMENTS

  • Advanced electric guitar techniques: The artists will teach their techniques, such as using the mediator, phrasing techniques, using pedals and amplifiers, tapping and much more.

  • Recording and Production: Information on recording, music production and studio techniques will also be covered.

The above-mentioned themes are provided for informational purposes; modifications can be made by the coaches, management, or the group based on common interests.

REQUIREMENTS

We want every student to get the most out of our camps. For this reason, and in everyone's interest, an intermediate to advanced level is required for this camp.

  • Know the notes on the instrument, at least on the two bass strings E and A

After sending your registration, you will receive an invoice with the chosen options. Your participation in the camp will be confirmed upon receipt of the full payment.

This camp will take place with a minimum of 10 students. MIGS Academy reserves the right to cancel the camp if the number of students is insufficient. In such cases, registrations will be refunded.

ACCOMODATION OFFER

To ensure you don't worry about accommodation arrangements, we offer an affordable accomodation option with single or double rooms in the heart of Montreux at our partner's HIM Business School.

We do not mark up the accommodation, and you always have the option to arrange accomodation independently.
